Shape - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In geometry, two objects are of the same shape if one can be transformed to another (ignoring color) by dilating (that is, by multiplying all distances by the same factor) and then, if necessary, rotating and translating.
In other words, the shape of an object is all the geometrical information that remains after location, scale and rotational effects are filtered out.
Objects which are geometrically similar either have the same shape or one has the same shape as the other's mirror image (or both if they are themselves symmetric).

Tomahawk (geometric shape) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The tomahawk is a geometric shape with an unknown inventor.
The basic shape is constructible with ruler and compass, but is able to do much more than is possible with the straightedge and compass alone, primarily due to the ability of the tomahawk to be lined up with figures and make comparisons.
It is possible to trisect an angle with the tomahawk by lining up one ray of the angle with point R in the picture, letting the vertex lie on SV, and letting the other ray tangent to semicircle SDU.

The last and final most geometric shape would have to be traffic signals because they are gemetric in two ways one is that they tell people what to do by color and symbols and in geometry you learn what your supposed to do to answer the problem by using symbols.
I think these are geometric objects because the clock is in the shape of a circle, the picture frame is in the shape of a square, and the block is in the shape of a triangle.
The refrigerator is geometrical because it is in a rectangular form, a television is geometrical because it is the form of a cube, and a bed is geometrical because it is also rectangular.

ATPM 9.11 - Quick Tips in Design: Part 5: Shape
A shape may combine different qualities, for example one shape can be both simple and natural, and another shape can be simple, geometric, and abstract.
Geometry, in mathematics, is the study of shapes and their relationships, but the definition of geometric shape in visual art is more flexible.
Geometric shapes are structured, often symmetrical, and often contain straight lines.

Geometric Morphometrics: Ten Years of Progress Following the Revolution
By the mid-twentieth century, quantitative description of morphological shape was combined with statistical analyses describing patterns of shape variation within and among groups, and the modern field of morphometrics began.
Finally, it was not usually possible to generate graphical representations of shape from the linear distances because the geometric relationships among the variables were not preserved (a set of linear distances is usually insufficient to capture the geometry of the original object).

Shapes can be divided into naturalistic shapes and geometric shapes.
In a landscape, naturalistic shapes, such as trees, usually predominate in contrast to manmade, geometric shapes, such as houses.
Geometric shapes express minimum contrast and are thus more decorative than naturalistic shapes.

Fractal   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
The geometric shape of the object is irregular, broken, or fractured (as opposed to smooth).
Fractals are generally irregular (not smooth) in shape, and thus are not objects definable by traditional geometry.
For example, a normal Euclidean shape, such as a circle, looks flatter and flatter as it is magnified.

In this new modeling scheme, object shapes are represented using a parameterized function -- called the generator -- which accounts for the global shape of an object and the pedal curve/surface of this global shape with respect to a geometric snake to represent any local detail.
Traditionally, pedal curves/surfaces are defined as the loci of the feet of perpendiculars to the tangents of the generator from a fixed point called the pedal point.
Automatic topological changes of the model may be achieved by implementing the geometric active contour in a level-set framework.

Each student is given a shape on a card attached to a string that will hang on their back (it must be out of their view) and a "What's My Shape?" reference card.
Once the students have identified their shape, have them review the "What's My Shape?" reference card and search for similarities or patterns in the way the shapes were placed on the card.
Back in the classroom, ask students to transform their drawn shape into a picture of something that is found in nature using with crayons and markers.

Shape interrogation is the process of extraction of information from a geometric model.
Apart from the differential geometry topics covered, the entire book is based on the unifying concept of recasting all shape interrogation problems to the solution of a nonlinear system.
It provides the mathematical fundamentals as well as algorithms for various shape interrogation methods including nonlinear polynomial solvers, intersection problems, differential geometry of intersection curves, distance functions, curve and surface interrogation, umbilics and lines of curvature, geodesics, and offset curves and surfaces.

 Geometric Modeling and Processing 2000
Geometric Modeling and Processing 2000 (GMP 2000) will be held in Hong Kong on April 10-12, 2000.
GMP 2000 is the first in a biennial international conference series on solid modeling, shape representation and geometric computation.
Modeling and processing of geometric shape is fundamental to many disciplines, such as computer graphics, computer vision, CAD/CAM, medical imaging and scientific computation.

 Ed Tech Lesson Plan
After reviewing geometric shapes with students through the use of websites and models, students will pick one geometric shape for this project.
An easy way to draw a geometric shape is to go to AutoShapes on the Draw Toolbar, slide up to Basic Shapes and then slide over to the shape that you want to draw.
Demonstrate how, if you hover on a shape, the name of the shape will pop up in a small text box telling the student what the shape is and what the correct spelling is for the selected shape.

The suggested questions are open-ended to allow for an assessment of students' knowledge of geometric vocabulary.
It is expected that students will identify the solids as having flat sides and that they will say the first shape is made of pentagons, the second is made of lots of triangles, and the third is made of triangles but is different from shape 2, and so on.
They may tell you which is their favorite shape and why, and they may mention which shape is more familiar to them.
