Most of the Caterpillars in family GEOMETRIDAE only have one or two pair of prolegs.
The GEOMETRIDAE caterpillars are usually hairless and with slender body.
The GEOMETRIDAE usually pupate in plant materials or in the soil in a flimsy cocoon.

  Geometridae
Of these 62 families, the Geometridae, with over 1,400 species in the United States and Canada, represent the second largest family of Lepidoptera.
The Geometridae are well known as "inchworm moths" for their distinctive larval form.
US and Canadian Geometridae are further divided among 6 sub-families, the Alsophilinae, Archiearinae, Oenochrominae, Ennominae, Geometrinae, Sterrhinae, and Larentiinae.

 Geometridae
There is no catalogue dealing with the Geometridae of the Caribbean region, nor book to identify them.
As a general feature, the level of endemism is high, compared to other families, and many species remain to be discovered, as our survey of these small moths was not exhaustive.
Data on host-plants were found in the works of Dyar (1890-1925), Ferguson (1985, Geometridae in: Dominick et al, Moths of America north of Mexico) and Kimball (1965, Lepidoptera of Florida).

 Populationsökologie - News
This indicates that the distance to old-grown forests may play a major role for recolonization by dispersing moths, and emphasizes the contribution of structurally heterogeneous cultivated landscapes or secondary forests in the vicinity of natural forests – acting as sources for recolonization – to preserve a substantial proportion of tropical moth diversity.
The only positive relationship between the diversity of a moth taxon and one of the three recorded vegetation parameters (diversity of understorey vegetation, diversity of larger woody plants, relative coefficient of variation of tree stem diameters in breast height) was found between diversity of Geometridae moths and understorey vegetation diversity.
While endemic Geometridae contribute less than 10% to species totals as well as individuals of the recorded Geometridae at individual light trapping sites, endemic Syntominae reached a proportion of up to 100%.

The Genitalia of the Geometridae, F.N. Pierce
As the second volume in F.N. Pierce's series on the Genitalia of the British Lepidoptera, "Geometridae" was published in 1914, covering the known British species at the time.
Though they are regarded as invaluable for identifying difficult species, the originals are not easily available, and the reprinted versions were considered inferior in quality.
Furthermore, we have added species concordance (kindly provided by Dr. Mike Hull) for all the species and their synonyms, with Bradley and Karsholt numbers, to assist the modern lepidopterist.

Morphological distinctive characters: generally they are winged with 2 pairs of wings covered by colored scales (species of Sesiidae have wings with few scales and for their look might be confused with hymenoptera), mouth parts are fitted for lapping like a spiral (species of Micropterygidae have mouth parts fitted for chewing).
Females of some species of Limantriidae and mainly of Geometridae have only vestigial wings (body is hairy and/or covered by scales).
