Wagenseil himself composed for the court from 1739 to his death.

Fux recommended the young Wagenseil for a scholarship in 1735, gave him intense lessons, and again recommended him for the post of court composer on February 6th, 1739, which Wagenseil retained for the rest of his life (though later he also accepted other posts as a keyboardist).
Wagenseil's keyboard, chamber, and symphonic works however were composed throughout his career and show an early shift from High Baroque to late Galant.
Wagenseil was said to be equally famous as a keyboard virtuoso.

An essential component of this is close scrutiny of the original manuscripts and this proves notably valuable when it comes to Mann, Monn and Wagenseil in particular, three composers who have suffered considerable neglect from publishers, let alone recording companies.
Mann’s brother Georg Matthias Monn — debate has raged about the spelling of the surname for many years and shows no signs of resolution — is known more for his Concerti, bowdlerised though they may have been.
To doubters, who may find the composer a mite generic, Simpson brings accomplished intelligence to bear — with stately, finely articulated opening movements and plenty of expressive elegance — particularly acute in the case of the Minuet and Trio of the A major (No.6).

Composers from this period sought dramatic effects, striking melodies, and clearertextures.
One important break with the past was the radical overhaul of opera by Christoph Willibald Gluck, who cut away a great deal of the layering and improvisional ornament, and focused on the points of modulation and transition.
By making these momentswhere the harmony changes more focal, he created the ability for powerful dramatic shifts in the emotional color of the music.

A primeira delas foi um Scherzo de Georg Christoph Wagenseil, aprendido em meia hora, em 24 de janeiro de 1761, quando ele tinha quase 5 anos.
