NewsAdvance.com Miller Park was city's crowning jewel
Miller Park is where George spent his childhood afternoons and weekends in the 1940s, while his grandfather, George Reed, served as Lynchburg’s superintendent of parks and forestry.
The 37-acre park was deeded to the city in 1862 by one of Lynchburg’s wealthiest businessmen, Samuel Miller, according to city Parks and Recreation director Kay Frazier.
In fact, Thomas George’s fondest memory of the park was in those bear pits, well after the bears had left Lynchburg and the zoo had closed down.
