Ariyoshi also said that the need for increased revenues by the county “should not become the burden of a few people.” His statement reflects the idea that workers who are limited by government-imposed minimum wage standards should share equally in the cost of that government with those who are prospering under the system.
That’s a continuation of the “trickle-down” theory which was popular during the Reagan presidency, which his opponent at the time, George Bush, derisively labeled as “voodoo economics.” Under that kind of approach over two decades, the monied elite have added to their wealth, while the average wage-earner has gone further into debt.
A policy that puts an extra $100 per year into one person’s pocket while putting $10,000 in someone else’s is not about “fairness” – it’s an unequal policy which rewards individuals who hold positions in society that already earn them high compensation for their time.

Ariyoshi is free to argue that his words don't apply to this campaign, and it's Case's right to contend that they do.
