Ray Bradbury - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ray Bradbury (his given name is not Raymond) was born in Waukegan, Illinois to a Swedish immigrant mother and a father who was a power and telephone lineman.
For Bradbury, there is some blurring of categories, and the distinctions in his works are somewhat subjective, for he frequently has written multiple short stories about a set of characters or a subject, making minor edits or adding supplemental material, and calling the results a "novel".
Bradbury was a consultant for the American Pavilion at the 1964 New York World's Fair and the exhibit housed in EPCOT's Spaceship Earth geosphere at Walt Disney World.

An ancestor of mine, Mary Bradbury, was tried as a witch in Salem in the seventeenth century; from her, I suppose, I get my concern and dedicated interest in freedom from fear and a detestation for thought-investigation or thought-control of any sort.
During the years of World War II, Bradbury cut his writer's fee with stories for the pulps, quite consciously written in crude prose; in this way he was able to develop the sense of plot for which he is so highly regarded.
Bradbury always wanted to eschew the "science fiction" category, feeling--as so many feel--that it militates against good writing by the technological framework it demands.
