		George Calinescu is regarded as one of the foremost Romanian literary critics, essayists, and novelists of the twentieth century.
		Calinescu's study is regarded as "the novel of Romanian literature" in the same sense in which Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel's Die Phänomenologie des Geistes (The Phenomenology of Mind, 1807) represents the novel of the spirit of the Enlightenment.
		and R. George Calinescu died of cirrhosis on 12 March 1965 and was buried in the Bellu cemetery, the Père Lachaise of Bucharest, beside Eminescu's grave.
