Carman’s laboratory is recognized internationally for its work on the biochemical and molecular characterization of phospholipid metabolism/signaling in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

GEORGE CARMAN, QC, yesterday said Goh Chok Tong, the Prime Minister of Singapore, and Lee Kuan Yew, his predecessor, "shot themselves in the foot" by releasing accusations over which they are now seeking legal damages.
Mr Carman said that Thomas Shields, QC, for the plaintiffs, had telephoned the previous evening to say he would be relying on newspaper reports of the trial to seek aggravated damages from Mr Jeyaretnam.
Mr Carman, in his closing argument, reminded the court that, during cross-examination, the Prime Minister testified that he was the one who had authorised the release of the police reports to the press, not Mr Jeyaretnam.

I remain to be convinced that history will ever decide the true nature of George Carman as we pass down the centuries: so the jury will remain out.
Taken from the perspective of contemporary values, I see Carman as a mixture of those two and of Patrick Hastings although comparisons are rather a crude reflection here on the individual greatness of each person’s forensic skills.
George considered his most notable success to be that of Dr Leonard Arthur, the paediatrician acquitted of murdering a baby - this is according to son, Dominic, who wrote this biography.

After a lifetime at the Bar during which he had risen to become one of the highest profile barristers in British legal history, Carman's decision to ask his son to write his biography may just have proved to be the one of the few gambles he took that backfired.
It certainly helps to explain how barristers like Carman can live with the knowledge that their advocacy has kept a guilty person out of prison, or more worryingly, put an innocent one inside.
