George Clarke, a British trawler chartered by the U.S. Navy in the spring of 1919 to help clear the North Sea of mines, was taken over at Grimsley Naval Base, and commissioned 15 May 1919, Et.
George Clarke was assigned to the Minesweeping De-tachment, U.S. Naval Forces in Europe, and departed Kirkwall, Scotland, 7 July 1919 to begin the dangerous and arduous task of taking up the mine barrage.
George Clarke was sent to Brighton, England, where she was decommissioned and was returned to the Admiralty 11 August.

George junior received a Classical education from William Williams at Waimate and Turanga (Gisborne), and was fluent in Maori.
From June to December 1844 George Jnr accompanied the New Zealand Company surveying party to Otago as Maori advocate, and prepared the deed, which conveyed the land for the future settlement of Dunedin.
In 1851 he was ordained at the Union chapel, Islington and returned to Hobart to become minister of the Congregational Chapel near Collins Street and then to the new Church in Davey Street, which was built in 1856, and continued there for 52 years.

Hi, I am looking for infomation on a George Clarke born in aprox 1851 to William and Catherine Clarke of the Redbank (Chipman) New Brunswick area.
I understand that George returned to Ireland, possibly to the area were his father originated.
George had two brothers, John Malcolm and William and one sister Mary Jane.
