  George Anthony Denison - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
George Anthony Denison (11 December 1805 - 21 March 1896) was an English churchman.
Brother of politician John Evelyn Denison, 1st Viscount Ossington, he was horn at Ossington, Nottinghamshire, and educated at Eton and Christ Church, Oxford.
A suit on the complaint of a neighboring clergyman ensued and after various complications Denison was condemned by the archbishops court at Bath (1856); but on appeal the Court of Arches and the privy council quashed this judgment on a technical plea.

George Taylor Denison III (31 August 1839 – 1925) was a Canadian soldier and publicist.
Colonel Denison was one of the founders of the Canada First movement, which did much to shape the national aspirations from 1870 to 1878, and was a consistent supporter of imperial federation and of preferential trade between Great Britain and her colonies.
He became a member of the Royal Society of Canada, and was president of the section dealing with English history and literature.

Denison is the seat of the Gate City business college (generally known as Harshaw Academy), and of St Xavier's academy (Roman Catholic).
It is chiefly important as a railway centre, as a collecting and distributing point for the fruit, vegetables, hogs and poultry, and general farming products of the surrounding region, and as a wholesale and jobbing market for the upper Red river valley.
Denison was settled by Northerners at the time of the construction of the Missouri, Kansas and Texas railway to this point in 1872, and was named in honour of George Denison (1822-1876), a director of the railway; it became a city in 1891, and in 1907 adopted the commission form of government.

George Denison and his brothers Richard Lippincott and Robert Brittain set an early precedent in 1839 when the disbandment of the active force threatened the demise of the Queen’s Light Dragoons (an honorary designation conferred on the York Dragoons during the campaigns of 1837—39); their equipment was to be returned to imperial stores.
Meanwhile, Denison and his son, George Taylor, campaigned by pamphlet, letter, and personal pressure on senior officials and officers to promote more vigorous policies in support of the militia as the mainstay of provincial and, ultimately, national defence.
