Juan Donoso Cortés [Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy]   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
Donoso’s theories were uniquely influential in shaping the ideological trajectory that began with the reaction against the Enlightenment and the French Revolution in the eighteenth century and culminated in the rise of fascism in the twentieth century.
Donoso's notion of infallible authority resonated in the Nazi Führerprinzip, the Italian fascist principle of Ducismo, and the principle of Caudillaje of the Franco régime in Spain (1936-75).
Donoso saw human beings as so morally depraved and feeble in intellect that they require dictatorial rulers to regulate their behavior, priests to tell then what to believe and think, and executioners to punish them when they waver or depart from the commanded norms of behavior, thought, and belief.

The Dears - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The lineup of the band changes frequently, the only constant member being Murray Lightburn.
The current members of the band are George Donoso, Valerie Jodoin-Keaton, Patrick Krief, Martin Pelland, and Lightburn's wife, Natalia Yanchak - and have been since 2004.
The band's music has been described as a cross between The Smiths, Serge Gainsbourg and Radiohead, with Lightburn's singing voice being likened to that of Blur's Damon Albarn and, more obviously, Morrissey of The Smiths, while the complexity of the music and arrangements reminds more of the art rock scene (Radiohead, Jethro Tull, Genesis).

 Metroland Online - Live
Singer-composer Murray Blackburn is posited as a pop/pomp visionary in press materials, and their “Lost in the Plot” is about the coolest thing going on radio right now, but the band’s ability to pull off such complex and dynamic material in a live setting was especially stunning.
Opener “We Can Have It” found Blackburn quietly strumming his acoustic guitar, crooning, “What we want is gone for good, it’s simply nowhere to be found,” before George Donoso III’s insistent drumbeat catapulted the band into high gear.
Donoso and Blackburn anchored the band with their truly passionate performances, while Martin Pelland added burbles of soulful bass guitar.

 Jambalaya: Concerts
At times, the kick is introduced by a band member inserting something extra, be it guitarist Patrick Krief laying down additional notes or George Donoso III providing extra bite through his drumming.
The greatest facet of the band's live intensity, though, is their cohesion, which is why it was a treat that the sound allowed the fans to clearly hear, for example, Valerie Jodoin-Keaton's flute and Natalia Yanchak's backing vocals on "Never Destroy Us" or Martin Pelland's rumbling bass lines on "We Can Have It."
George was particularly cool, even remembering me from past Ottawa concerts.

 The Dears Biography
With a stylized and cinematic scope, the record fused narratives, orchestral arrangements and pop in a way that was praised for ambitious grandiosity.
The Dears, now Lightburn with keyboardist Natalia Yanchak and joined by drummer George Donoso III and bassist Martin Pelland, exhausted themselves on a seemingly endless schedule of grueling tours.
When they came home, to Montreal, in the summer of 2005, Natalia Yanchak and Murray Lightburn were married, a gesture that formalized their decade-long partnership.

 About Sugartune
I was in a group (more a social club) called Love Gravy which specialized in butchering the songs of pop rockers, Sloan (the name Sugartune is lifted from their album Smeared).
Members included George Donoso III (now with the Dears) on drums, Eric Fares (now with the Sam Roberts Band) on guitar, Shawn Purdy (now a chef/jug-rock revivalist) on bass, and me on guitar.
George's ear for picking up tunes was rivaled only by Shawn's, who could pick up any riff instantaneously.

The band had just released its debut album, 'End Of A Hollywood Bedtime Story', and while few were on hand that night to heed the message, it still reverberates to this day: it's time to get real, to get to the heart of the matter by fearlessly addressing matters of the heart.
George Donoso III pounded his drums with the butt-ends of his sticks, apparently convinced no one would be able to hear him if he didn't drive his stick through the skin on every hit, then he'd turn into a jazz drummer at the next change.
Bassist Martin Pelland didn't even seem to know where he was until the music was over, and it seemed like they were all on some kind of drug that probably doesn't come from this planet until it came time to sell T-shirts and CD's after the show.

With his inspiration sapped and his old Northstar mate George Donoso off reaping critical success with Montreal indie darlings The Dears, Sam Roberts was faced with a tough choice.
Roberts and McGuire hibernated for a month to prepare the songs ("the only collaborating I like to do is writer to producer," Sam says).
Old pal Donoso was called in to lay down drum tracks and then the full band arrived to "lay down some of the shit we do live over the top of it."
