George was born on October 21, 1449 in Dublin, at a time when his father, having assumed the name Plantagenet to emphasize his descent from King Henry II of England, was beginning to challenge King Henry VI of England for the crown.
Warwick's efforts to return Henry VI to the throne having failed, and Warwick himself having been killed in battle, George was restored to the royal favour, but now saw his main rival as his younger brother, Richard, Duke of Gloucester, who had married the widowed Anne Neville.

George Duke's second album for his own BPM (Big Piano Music) label isn't as memorable as FACE THE MUSIC, but it still has plenty of highspots.
Duke's chops are still clean, and the fingers haven't lost their gift of tickling the keys.
I own most of the George Duke discography, and this by far is the most enjoyable music I've heard from him in a long time -- and I don't use the term "music" lightly.

Generally decent and occasionally excellent, Liberated Fantasies falls short of essential but is worth hearing if enjoy hearing Duke tackle a variety of material.

Almost all of his albums have been issued on CD, the one blatant exception is his work for MPS Records in the mid-70's.
In 1982 George himself hand selected what he considered to be the best tracks from those three albums and issued The 1976 Solo Keyboard Album.
