Topic: George Edward Cecil Wigg, Baron Wigg

George Wigg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
George Edward Cecil Wigg, Baron Wigg (November 28, 1900 - August 11, 1983) was a British politician who only served in relatively junior offices but had a great deal of influence behind the scenes, especially with Harold Wilson.
Wigg served in the British Army for almost all his career up to his election as Member of Parliament for Dudley in 1945.
Wigg was already known for passing on gossip to Labour leader Harold Wilson, and when Labour won the 1964 election Wilson appointed Wigg as Paymaster-General.

 Nelson's Monument
Daniel Wigg became a gardener at some time between 1861 and 1871 by which time Sarah had taken on the job of School Teacher but, by 1881, she had, evidently, given up this job as no occupation is noted against her name in the census returns.
However, when Gardiner met Daniel Wigg, the latter was living alone and it seems that Ann had died somewhere after 1891 when she last appeared in the census returns - there does not appear to be a record of her death in Preston Candover.
Daniel Wigg sang of a monument to Nelson and to Collingwood.

Three years later, in 1935, George had left; Margaret was there still with her parents, together with her sister Bertha Ethel who had been 'in service' to the Coleman family at Gatton since the age of 12; she had (probably) been born in 1894.
