Forrest is responsible for introducing to cultivation a wide range of woody, bulbous and perennial plants that today form the backbone of all gardens.
The Rhododendron Camellia and Magnolia group of the RHS had organized, with the help of Paul Cook of Ness Gardens www.nessgardens.org.uk an exhibition of plants introduced by George Forrest as part of the Early Rhododendron Show in the horticultural halls, and five speakers to give everyone an account of the man and his plant introductions.
Brenda Maclean, the author of a new biography of Forrest gave us an account of the man. His physical and moral strength were enormous: he would not have survived even his first expedition without such strength.

Forrest's memorial does not lie, of course, on a bombed hillside in Yunnan but in the contribution he made to our knowledge of Chinese botany and the plants he introduced to cultivation.

George then proceeded to distinguish between patents and copyright, and to argue that the latter was a defensible form of intellectual property.
In a response that bordered on an ad hominem attack, Tucker called George "one of the most dangerous men among all of those now posing as public teachers." It was George's defense of copyright that elicited Tucker's scorn.
The pro-copyright Lysander Spooner had previously written, "So absolute is an author's right of dominion over his ideas that he may forbid their being communicated even by human voice if he so pleases." With lines so clearly and deeply drawn, neither side conceded many points on copyright.
