FLYING MACHINES - Horatio Frederick Phillips   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
Phillips continued to experiment with wing designs, and built another flying machine test rig in 1902, which had 120 wings and was powered by a gasoline engine.
As a result of his experiments, Phillips was able to prove his hypothesis that in a curved wing, where the curvature is greater on the top surface than the bottom surface, the lift is generated primarily by the upper surface.
This proof had eluded Sir George Cayley, although he suspected it to be true.

Sermon Outlines on Jeremiah: By Dr. Oliver R. Phillips
The Book of Jeremiah, second of the Major Prophets or longer books of the prophetic collection of the Old Testament of the Bible, derives its name from the prophet Jeremiah who lived in Anathoth, on the outskirts of Jerusalem.
As would be quickly detected, the outlines are all shaped after the model of sermon preparation advocated by Dr. Samuel D. Proctor.
This is the dialectical model as was first introduced by George Frederick Hegel.

Liberty - Did the Fed Cause the Depression?
The most entertaining history of the 1920s is Frederick Lewis Allen's wonderfully titled book "Only Yesterday." Reading this famous work today, one cannot help but be struck by the similarities between the '20s, the '60s, and the '90s.
Believing, after he read George Frederick Warren's peculiar argument in his book "Prices," that the current gold price caused commodity prices to be what they are, he set about inflating the price of gold and, ipso facto depreciating the dollar.
Having taken ownership of all gold previously in private hands, and having prior contracts specifying payment in gold revoked by Congress, FDR decided that the "correct" price for gold was $35 per ounce.

Michael Novak & Christopher Levenick on Bush's Second Inaugural on National Review Online
Ten days later, on January 30, with great bravery and panache, the Iraqi people voted and dipped their fingers in purple ink to taunt their foes with the fact that they had done so — more than eight million voters out of a total adult population of just over 14 million.
George W. Bush's second inaugural was the 55th such address in our nation's history.
This phrase seems to echo George Washington, who observed that "the preservation of the sacred fire of liberty, and the destiny of the Republican model of Government, are justly considered as deeply, perhaps as finally staked, on the experiment entrusted to the hands of the American people."
