GEORGE GALLUP, JR.: My dad was really a fervent promoter of public opinion polling in the United States and around the world, because in many respects he was a populist, he believed in the average person, he believed in the tremendous potential of the average person.
GEORGE GALLUP, JR.: If my dad were here today I think he'd be very proud of the way public opinion polling has taken hold in the thinking of people in all different spheres, certainly business, and that's been so for many, many years, newspapers certainly buy into polls, if you will, a lot.

George Gallup was born on November 18, 1901 to George Henry and Nettie Davenport, in Jefferson, Iowa.
Following his graduation with a Bachelor's degree in 1923, Gallup remained at the university as an instructor in journalism, concurrently carrying on studies which earned him a Master's degree in psychology in 1925 and a Doctoral degree in 1928.

George Gallup Jr., chairman of the George H. Gallup International Institution and son of the legendary American statistician and pioneering pollster, will visit Maryville College Wed., April 19.
Gallup has been in the field of polling for 50 years, much of this time with the Gallup Poll that his father made popular in the 1930s.
As chairman of the George H. Gallup International Institute, he leads initiatives to “discover, test and encourage new applications to social problems.” He is a trustee of the John T. Templeton Foundation and the Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry and serves on the boards of many other local and national organizations.
