Hamilton is best known for the hits “Before This Day Ends,” “Three Steps to the Phone,” “Truck Drivin’ Man,” “She’s A Little Bit Country,” and “Abilene,” all of which helped earn his induction to the Sidewalk of the Stars at the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Hamilton “the fourth” can also claim many “firsts.” He was the first established pop act to go country and the first American country artist to star in his own television series in England and Canada.
Hamilton moved to Nashville in 1959 to establish himself in country music —; a radical move for the times for a pop star.

Born July 19, 1937, George Hamilton IV was raised on the Westerns of Gene Autry and began playing guitar at the age of 12.
Somewhat uncomfortable on the pop charts, George Hamilton IV never equalled the success of "A Rose and a Baby Ruth." The 1957 single "Why Don't They Understand" barely made the Top Ten, and his 1958 inspirational record "The Teen Commandments" -- recorded with Paul Anka and Johnny Nash -- stalled at number 29.
His son, George Hamilton V, toured with his father's backup band and charted a single during 1988.
