		George Hewison (born 1944) is; a former long-time member of the Communist Party of Canada, trade unionist and folk singer.
		Hewison succeeded William Kashtan as general secretary in 1988 at a time when the Communist world was being convulsed by Mikhail Gorbachev's reforms in the Soviet Union.
		Hewison was unanimously re-elected leader at the party's next convention in 1992 which produced a new manifesto called "Communists and the; New Decade" (1990s).

	Smallwood family history
		His son George was settled in Thorganby as a yeoman farmer by the date of his first marriage in 1664, but appears to have moved to Sutton on Derwent by 1672 when he was taxed there.
		This latter George is described in the baptisms of the children and grandchildren of his daughter Ann as a farmer of Sutton on Derwent parish, and again it seems very likely that he was in turn the father of the George and William Smallwood who appear in Sutton on Derwent having children from the 1720's.

		George has released three albums; sang on picket lines/demos/rallies across Canada’ and has performed at concerts, workshops, and tours throughout Canada, US and Europe.
		George is the founder of the Rank n File Band which performed at every one of the 11 Days of Protest against the Mike Harris Tories.
		George was fresh off the CBC picket lines and performed at the CLC Convention and the CUPE Ontario Division Convention in London Ontario.

	King George V's Visits to Scapa Flow
		King George made several visits to the Grand Fleet in Scapa Flow, the first in July 1915, another in July 1916 when he stayed overnight on HMS Iron Duke and visited the flagships of all the squadrons in the Flow (to congratulate them on the Battle of Jutland).
		King George V made another visit to Scapa in June 1917, arriving on HMS Castor during a Force 8 gale and thunderstorm on Thursday 21st.
		If Bill Hewison's details above are correct (and he usually was very thorough - he died in 2001), then the King did NOT visit HMS Vanguard, so the photo of Kyosuke Eto being presented to him was probably taken on board HMS Hercules (a 'Colossus' Class battleship, completed in 1911) on Saturday 23rd June 1917.

		Under the leadership of general secretary George Hewison (1988-’91), the leadership of the CPC and a segment of its general membership began to abandon Marxism-Leninism as the basis of the Party's revolutionary perspective, and ultimately moved to liquidate the Party itself, seeking to replace it with a left, social democratic entity.
		An out-of-court settlement resulted in the Hewison leadership relinquishing the name "Communist Party of Canada" to the minority, while taking most of the old party's assets to form the Cecil-Ross Society which was to be a publishing and educational foundation.
		A convention was held in December of 1992 in which delegates declared themselves to be the continuation of the Communist Party (thus the meeting was titled the 30th CPC Convention).
