In the temple of Apollo Diradiotes at Argos, a lamb was sacrificed by night once a month; a woman, who had to observe a rule of chastity, tasted the blood of the lamb, and thus being inspired by the god she prophesied or divined.
Similarly among the Kuruvikkarans, a class of bird-catchers and beggars in Southern India, the goddess Kali is believed to descend upon the priest, and he gives oracular replies after sucking the blood which streams from the cut throat of a goat.

 TIME Magazine Archive Article -- Caroline Lamb's Husband -- Aug. 28, 1939
As William Lamb, he was the husband of Byron& mistress, Caroline Lamb, and was by all odds the most urbane of the many cuckolds whom George Gordon Lord Byron left on his pilgrimage through British bedrooms.
Caroline Lamb was one of the first live, romantic heroines, but the robust Lambs did not believe in heroines or romance.
He "had a robust Eighteenth-Century mocking kind of outlook." When she saw him, Caroline Lamb wrote: "Bad, mad and dangerous to know." A week later she wrote: "That beautiful pale face will be my fate." They went through a curious mock marriage, exchanged vows, signed a book as Byron and Caroline Byron.

History Scotland Magazine: Review - The Landscape of Scotland: A Hidden History - C. R. Wickham-Jones
But after a fairly brief account of the earliest times, the Graemes move to centre stage, beginning with the progenitor of the family, George Grahame, bishop of Orkney.
Of even the Churchill Barriers, one of the modern marvels of Orkney, only one, or perhaps one and a half, is technically in Holm, and the Italian Chapel, the relic of the builders of those marvels, though within the parish, is more associated with its own small island, Lamb Holm (pronounced holm).
There is an older story to Holm, particularly involving the curious sub-parish of Paplay, entered separately in the early rentals, probably because it had been acquired by William, the last Sinclair earl, as part of the personal estates which continued to give him a locus in Orkney after his loss of the earldom.
