Lynch was born in Spokane, Washington and raised near Sacramento, California.
Lynch is well known for his famous legato technique and common use of the scale he calls the 'Gothic Octave'.
Lynch came to fame in the 1980s through his work as the lead guitarist in the band Dokken (whom he had been a member of since the late 1970s).

My initial involvement was as a musician only, however I was concious from a very early stage that if the project was to work then somebody would have to take on the administration role.
A lot of musicians had initially put their names down to do tracks and at one point we were looking at creating a double CD package with 21 tracks.
Unfortunately a lot of the musicians weren't able to record and therefore the CD was eventually cut down to a single CD with 12 tracks.
