McAfee's pro career was not particularly a long one.
McAfee, whether running wide or going through the middle, either as a pass-receiver or as a decoy, was a constant headache to the defense.
McAfee's way of accomplishing that goal was to "run to daylight," the same kind of thinking Vince Lombardi made famous a couple of years later.

 HickokSports.com - Biography - George McAfee
There were doubts about whether the slender, 6-foot, 177-pounder could make it with the Chicago Bears when he joined the team in 1940, but McAfee erased those doubts by returning a punt 75 yards for a touchdown in his first exhibition game and running back a kickoff 93 yards in his first regular season game.
McAfee was particularly dangerous as a punt returner.
During 8 seasons with the Bears, McAfee gained 1,685 yards on 341 attempts, a 4.9 average, scoring 22 touchdowns; caught 85 passes for 1,357 yards, a 16.0 average, and 10 touchdowns; and returned 112 punts for 1,431 yards and 2 touchdowns.

For it was Staley who ushered George S. Halas onto the pro football scene and in turn it was Halas who introduced many of the things that are good into the professional football world.
Yet, if the number honored greats were only 10, or even five, it is certain that George Halas would still be honored, for his contributions to the game as a player, as a coach, as a club owner and executive dwarf those of almost any other individual.
Obviously, there have been the peaks and the valleys in almost half a century of pro football activity, but Halas calls the day in 1940 when the Bears, in perhaps the greatest single team performance of all time, annihilated the Washington Redskins, 73-0 in the NFL title game, his greatest thrill.
