 Descendants of Henry Crane
Baron Hutchinson Crane arrived in Mt. Pleasant with his parents Eber and nancy Ann Knowlton Crane in 1853 as the city was emerging as a business and cultural center.
Baron became a clerk in Hugh Pickle's hardware store and in 1869 he bought the business and moved it to the east side of the city square where it remained through three generations of Crane ownership.
In 1882 the family moved to the Washington Street home, and although Baron died in 1887, his nine children grew to adulthood there, and then returned with their own families for Sunday afternoons and vacations, a custom which created strong ties among the cousins of the next generation.
