Floyd Bostwick Odlum born March 30, 1892 in Union City, Michigan, United States – died June 17, 1976 in Indio, California, was a wealthy lawyer and industrialist and husband first of Hortense McQuarrie first woman department store head and secondly of aviatrix Jackie Cochran.
Odlum was one of the 10 wealthiest men in the U.S. when he married Cochran in 1932.
He and Cochran were close friends of Amelia Earhart and her husband George Putnam Palmer and the Odlums were financial backers of Earhart's flying activities.

George Odlum, who has died aged 69 of cancer, was a key figure in the Anglo-Caribbean "new left" movement that rattled the Reagan administration and led to the 1983 US invasion of Grenada.
In 1970, Odlum organised a secret conference of their leading lights, including the later-martyred prime minister of Grenada, Maurice Bishop, on Rat Island, just off St Lucia's main tourist strip, where the demeaning level of local control enraged the socialist ideologues.
"Brother George", as the talented orator came to be known, made his base among the island's small farmers, who produced the bananas that were then its chief resource, and led frequent strikes to improve their conditions.

On the occasion of George Odlum’s funeral, I saw men who only recently wished death of him, mourn as if they could imagine what it was the rest of us had lost.
