The Right Honourable George Porter, Baron Porter of Luddenham, OM, FRS (6 December 1920–31 August 2002) was an English chemist.
Porter served as Chancellor of the University of Leicester between 1986 and 1995.
In 2001, the University's chemistry building was named the George Porter Building in his honour.

George Bryan Porter (February 9, 1791 - July 6, 1834), was a U.S. statesman in Pennsylvania and Michigan Territory.
He was born in Norristown, Pennsylvania, the brother of David Rittenhouse Porter, Pennsylvania Governor, 1839-1845, and James Madison Porter, Secretary of War, 1843-1844, and the uncle of Horace Porter, U.S. Ambassador to France, 1897-1905.
Porter was a Major in the U.S. Army during the War of 1812.

George Porter was born in Stainforth in Yorkshire on 6 December 1920.
The idea of using short pulses of light, of shorter duration than the lifetime of the free radicals, occurred to Porter, and he began the construction of an apparatus for this purpose in the early summer of 1947 and, together with Norrish, applied this to the study of gaseous free radicals and to combustion.
There are drafts of lectures Porter gave at a variety of Royal Institution occasions such as Schools Lectures, Discourses and Christmas Lectures and drafts of his research lectures in the area of photochemistry.

Ronald George Wreyford Norrish was a British chemist who shared the 1967 Nobel Prize for Chemistry with fellow Englishman Sir George Porter and German Manfred Eigen for their studies of very fast chemical reactions.
From 1949-65 he collaborated with his former pupil George Porter in the development of flash photolysis and kinetic spectroscopy for the investigation of very fast reactions.
The society was incorporated as a non-profit, nonstock corporation of the state of New York, for "the advancement of chemistry and the promotion of chemical research." It was predated by the Chemical Society of Philadelphia, which was the first such society in the world, and was founded in 1792 by James Woodhouse.
