Confessions Of A Political Junkie: Cokie Roberts
I slept late this morning, here at the in-laws house on the lake, and only caught the discussion at the end of George's show with Cokie Roberts, Matt Dowd (who is older that I imagined), Tad Devine, and George Will.
Cokie Roberts kept saying that the Democrats were the ones really on the defensive, the arguments against the commercials are dumb -- who would expect the images not to play a role in the campaign.
It was hysterical to watch Tad Devine saying the President's ads were in poor taste and George Stephy quoting anonymous (read: those not selected to help the President) Republican consultants expressing their disbelief that GWB would run an ad with 9/11 pictures in it.

Berger Collection (BCET) Artwork The Triumphal Arch crossing the Ravine leading to Petra David Roberts, RA
Roberts traveled to these faraway places, sketched the important landmarks, and brought the images back to London, where they were transferred into lithographs by Charles and Louis Haghe; accompanying text was then prepared by the Reverend George Croly, an author and drama critic with a reputation for eloquence.
This watercolor, The Triumphal Arch crossing the Ravine leading to Petra, was the basis of a lithograph that appeared in the first volume The Holy Land, and was painted by Roberts on a tour of the Middle East in 1839.
Reverend Croly described the scene that Roberts has illustrated with these words:

Tom Roberts - Roberts Plays Roberts
The artist on this invaluable recording, Tom Roberts, postulates the following in his fascinating liner notes: (1) due to the complexity of his music there was little no market for the published scores, and (2) Luckey was a financially successful band leader who didn't need to make records in order to survive.
Tom Roberts' excellent and comprehensive CD notes point out Luckey Roberts' accomplishments: the first Harlem pianist to be published--1913--and recorded--1916--and the composer of more than a dozen musical comedies beginning in 1911, several big band era hits, and symphonic works that were introduced at Carnegie Hall and Town Hall in New York City.
On this compact disc, he plays the music of Charles Luckeyth "Luckey" Roberts 1887-1968, originally from Philadelphia, who has been called the grandfather of stride piano and the king of the New York fast shout piano players.

 Eric Roberts
Performed by Eric Roberts with piano accompaniment, this is George Grossmith's own story of the Savoy Years, told by himself - an evening's entertainment lit with G&S favourites and Gee Gee's own rare original compositions.
Eric Roberts was forced into reading The Diary of a Nobody while at Art College - the alternative being to finish a particularly awful painting - and he was hooked.
It was whilst performing at the Savoy in The Mikado, directed by John Wells, that he became fascinated by the personality of George Grossmith, who, a century earlier in the same theatre, had made such an impact in creating the G&S comic patter roles that are known to this day as "the Grossmith Roles".
