Lake George Scientists believe an aggressive attack on zebra mussels, which threatened to disrupt boaters, swimmers and homeowners, has all but eliminated the pesky invaders.
The removal of the mollusk in Lake George would signify the first control program to squelch the mussel, which has inundated all of the state's Finger Lakes, the Hudson and Mohawk rivers, Glen Lake and Saratoga Lake since it was discovered in the state for the first time in Lake Erie in 1989.
O'Neill added that Lake George had a couple of variables in its favor: cold water temperatures, low calcium levels, a small area of infestation and a rapid response to the problem.

But George W. Bush will not be able to retrieve some of the international trust unless he fires, or sheds off one way or another the extremists in the Department of Defense and the office of his Vice President.
Most likely, George W. Bush will not take up any of these logical options because he is a prisoner of his personality and has become a prisoner of policies set up by those who think on his behalf.
George W. Bush not only declared Iraq a substitute to American cities in the war on terrorism, he also endorsed the position of his Secretary of Defense that it is the duty of Iraqis that they become informants.

George's cynicism about the school is revealed in a variety of allusions--the story of the teacher buried in the shrubbery, Martha's father's longevity ("the staying power of one of those Micronesian tortoises"), and a variety of sarcastic names for the college and the town.
