  U.S. Treasury - Biography of Secretary George P. Shultz
Having served as Secretary of Labor in 1968 and head of the Office of Management and Budget in 1970, George P. Shultz (b.1920) was appointed Secretary of the Treasury by President Nixon in 1973.
During his tenure, Shultz was concerned with two major issues: the continuing domestic administration of Nixon's "New Economic Policy," begun under Secretary John B. Conally, and a renewed dollar crisis that broke out in February 1973.
The portrait of Shultz, with his pipe and official Treasury necktie, was executed in Kinstler's New York studio in 1975.

George Pratt Shultz (born December 13, 1920) served as the United States Secretary of Labor from 1969 to 1970, as the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury from 1972 to 1974, and as the U.S. Secretary of State from 1982 to 1989.
It was during this period that Schultz, along with Paul Volcker and Arthur Burns, supported the decision of the Nixon administration to end the gold standard and the Bretton Woods system.
George Shultz left office on January 20, 1989 but continues to be a strategist for the Republican Party.

George C. Schultz, 20, of Round Hill, Virginia, who was a Seaman Apprentice with the U.S. Navy, died January 28, 2004, in the Burn Trauma Unit at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he was being treated for burns suffered in an accident January 26, 2004.
Schultz was in the U.S. Navy serving aboard the USS Monterey in Norfolk.

Schultz made it clear that the primary focus of his talk was the resurrection of the idea of the "Nation-state System." The Nation-state System is a policy under which the world would resume the traditional focus of the nation-state as the ultimate political entity.
Schultz noted that the one reason the principle of the nation-state "won out" is because it gave people a sense of "identity." But he was quick to point out that his favoring of the nation-state should not be confused with similar incantations.
Schultz, is the only answer to the question, "Who provides for you the in the capacity of representative government?" He mentioned that political globalization was one of the forces draining the power of the state, implying that this "misguided trend" must be kept under wraps.

Schultz has taken an active part in local affairs, having served as township supervisor for a long period, as chairman of the township board two years, district school clerk 17 years and director on the school board for many years.
Schultz has been gradually enlarged by the birth of seven children, one of whom, however, is now deceased, and others have married and have homes of their own.
