George Silver - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
George Silver was a gentleman of England during the late 16th and early 17th centuries, who is known for his writings on fencing.
Silver is characterised as being extremely nationalistic, objecting on ethical and technical grounds, to what he characterized as a pernicious influence of the fashionable continental rapier systems being taught at the time.
Silver recommends a highly defensive system which he deemed suitable for duelling, street defence and the battlefield, rather than the purely duelling orientation of the rapier.

Amazon.com: Master of Defense : The Works of George Silver: Books: Paul Wagner   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-07)
Considering that the two extant works of George Silver are available free online, I see no added value in spending $29.95 to read this author's bias about other weapons that he (one clearly infers based on his very words) has never even studied.
George Silver's works are important within the history of Renaissance swordplay, and a well-researched book complementing the "Brief Instructions" with sound and unbiased interpretation would be a great addition to any martial artist's bookshelf.
His fixation on denigrating the rapier consumes space that would've been better utilized with interpretation and explanation of the original text (besides, Silver's system is not merely a way to defeat the rapier, he discusses several other weapons and their use).
