George Street, Dunedin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
George Street is the main street of Dunedin, in the South Island of New Zealand.
A street grid was set up with the main road split in two by the city centre - Princes Street to the south, and George Street to the north (both these names, along with many of the city's other street names, reflect those in Edinburgh, Scotland).
George Street continues over the Leith, ending as it passes under the main road north from Dunedin (the Pine Hill Extension, part of State Highway 1).

Streets in the project area without any on-street parking include Main Avenue from USH 41 to 6 th Street, 3 rd Street between Reid Street and Main Avenue, George Street from Broadway to near Michigan Street, and Broadway south of Charles Street.
Crashes at George Street and Broadway are primarily caused by driverswho do not properly adjust to the extreme congestion, long backups, and sharp turning radii for trucks at the intersection.
On-street parking on George from Michigan to Erie, and possibly from Erie to Webster, should be removed to provide additional traffic lanes, unless George Street is made one way to reduce traffic volumes or property is acquired to provide the parking lanes.
