George White, fifty-second governor of Ohio, was born in Elmira, New York, August 21, 1872, the elder of the two children of Charles W.
George White's first venture into politics was in 1905, when he was elected as a "dry" Democrat to represent normally dry Republican Washington County in the Ohio House of Representatives.
White was annoyed at what he considered a breach of good taste, but stated, at least for public consumption, that the mention of his rival did not do him any harm.

George White's "Music Hall Varieties" replaced the "Scandals" in 1932, and in the cast was another Hollywood star of the future, tap-dancer supreme Eleanor Powell, and the likeable song-and-dance man (among other things) Harry Richman, who introduced Herman Hupfield's delightful ballad, "Let's Put out the Lights and Go to Sleep."
George White's "Scandals" of 1934, 1935, and 1945 were filmed, and the first two launched Alice Faye on her way to a glittering movie career.
