  George Washington Wilson - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
George Washington Wilson (7 February 1823 - 9 March 1893) was a pioneering Scottish photographer.
After studying art in Edinburgh and Paris, Wilson returned to his native city of Aberdeen in 1849 and built his first camera.
Aberdeen Public Library is in possession of those donated by his son, Charles in 1958 and the University of Aberdeen cares for a second significant collection discovered in a private house in Aberdeen in 1970.

Wilson's photographs using the new "wet-collodian" process were both technically and artistically excellent and he became noted as the best photographer in Scotland at the time.
In 1958, Wilson's 94 year-old son, Charles, gave what was thought to be the entire collection of glass plate negatives to Aberdeen Public Library, now held by the Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museums.
