George of the Jungle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
George of the Jungle is a Saturday-morning animated television program originally broadcast on the American TV network ABC from 1967 to 1970.
George is supported by his playmate/love interest Ursula (voiced by June Foray), his sapient gorilla friend Ape (Paul Frees), who is more intelligent than George (and sounds remarkably like Ronald Colman); and his pet elephant, Shep, who acts more like a lap dog, or, as George calls him, "great big peanut-luvin poochie".
George of the Jungle (1997), a live-action film version of the cartoon, stars Brendan Fraser, Leslie Mann, Thomas Haden Church, and John Cleese as the voice of Ape.

George of the Jungle follows what is almost a formula these days: a kids' movie with lots of kids' jokes (elephants urinating, apes farting, "buttflaps" for clothing, etc.) but with just enough ironic, self-mocking jokes that the adults are supposed to like it too.

Disney's big-screen version, George of the Jungle starring Brendan Fraser as the sweet, hopelessly inept jungle hero, puts the emphasis on slapstick and silly fun.
The humour is spotty and consistently more juvenile than the original cartoon, but the unending parade of visual gags (including George's pet elephant Shep, transformed into an overexcited six-tonne puppy by inventive digital effects) keeps the tone light, frothy and winningly fun.
Brendan Fraser could quite possibly be the king of slapstick comedy, playing the sweet but clumsy George, while Leslie Mann is stunning as the typical Disney heroine.
