The process made it abundantly clear that I am not and never will be an editor, but it has also armed me with an insight into the original material, its own complexity and inner tensions.
So on a more intimate basis than most critics, I am glad to applaud the cool Continental logic of Anderla and the higher mathematics of Dunning, but particularly the adroitness of Simon Forge who has woven the triple input into such a seamless and comfortable garment.

I have some favorite figures I like to quote in that connection from the French statistician Georges Anderla, who says information doubled between the time of Christ and Leonardo; that's 1500 years.
It doubled again between Leonardo and the steam engine, 250 years; doubled between the steam engine and quantum theory, 150 years; doubled between 1900 and 1950, that's 50 years.
