Georges Delerue - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Georges Delerue (March 12, 1925 - 20 March 1992) was a renowned French film composer who worked on over 300 films.
He insisted to be allowed to orchestrate and conduct himself in order to polish every detail.Georges Delerue was extraordinarily gifted for melody and at creating surrounding overtones which encapsulated the spirit of the movies for which he collaborated, enhancing them often beyond the expectations of their directors.

Filmtracks: Joe Versus the Volcano (Georges Delerue)
Joe Versus the Volcano: (Georges Delerue) In the final few years before his untimely death in 1992, Georges Delerue was enormously productive in the film composing scene, with a dozen scores to his credit in the 1990's alone.
Interestingly, however, after hearing the mastery that Delerue had created in those fifteen minutes, the producers of the film asked the composer to beef up the content to beyond 45 minutes in length, and Delerue, at the last minute, was happy to oblige.
Fitting as it is, however, that this cue was seemingly Delerue's favorite when scoring the film; the driving brass in the minor key build to one magnificent major key chord, after which the love theme is performed in full.

 Great Composers: Georges Delerue
Delerue was very badly treated by Hollywood, as the directors and producers seemingly didn't know how to employ his talents properly, and steadfastly refused to hire him for quality projects.
Delerue was a master of capturing the emotional resonance in relationships and situations.
Delerue's score is a dark, menacing affair with subtle Arabic, or African, overtones to enhance to exotic nature of the evil circus that comes to town, and a surprisingly violent action element that seems very out-of-character for the quiet Frenchman.

Filmtracks: Great Composers: Georges Delerue (Compilation)
In what was truly an international career, Delerue embodied the pure romantic side of film music, composing over thirty years for some of the world's most dramatic and sensuous films.
The culmination of Delerue's dramatic talents came in 1986's Platoon, for which he composed agonizing adagio that is equal, if not better to Barber's, which director Oliver Stone opted to use in much of the film instead.
Nevertheless, Delerue's ability to apply a strong theme and simple harmonies into his music causes a fan of his later, dramatic scores to easily enjoy his earlier jazz score as well.

Joe Versus the Volcano (Soundtrack) by Georges Delerue
The truth is that watching this movie for the first time is a little disturbing, because the essential thrust of the plot is that Joe has been diagnosed with a terminal illness, and thus, volunteers himself as a human sacrifice to appease an angry volcano on a little island--It’s fun, bring the family.
Despite the genuine-though-initially misunderstood hilarity that ensues in the film—(we’ll bypass that for now)—one of the most striking elements of the film was its’ unabashedly romantic score by composer Georges Delerue.
Thusly, Delerue closes off the album with a lyrical version of his love theme, “Marooned Without You”, a beautiful and non-intrusive vocal addition here, which, even if you don’t buy the sentimentality of the lyrics, you are buying the sentimentality of the orchestra behind them.

Robert Townson choice for the opening number on the first disc is brilliant: Delerue's overlooked adagio for Oliver Stone's Platoon, a theme which was inspired by the director's temp track, Samuel Barber's 'Adagio for Strings', only to be ignored in the final version of the film in favour of the original Barber piece.
