The Georges Leygues (D640) is a F70 type anti-submarine frigate of the French Marine Nationale.
She is the second French vessel named after the XIX-XXth Century politician and minister of the Navy Georges Leygues.
A rare instance of submarine warfare occurred, the Soviet submarine trying running at 28 knots and diving under the sonar of the Georges Leygues to try and avoid detection, before she was forced to surface, being formally identified as a Victor class submarine by the on-board Lynx WG13.

Photos usually number around 20 or so and are on average pretty murky, but they do provide additional details for those building models of the particular ship.

After World War II broke out in Europe in September 1939, Australia operated in the Indian Ocean and South Atlantic, protecting shipping routes from the threat of German surface raiders.
She went to the north Atlantic in mid-1940 and, in September of that year took part in the British Navy attack on Dakar, where she was hit by shells from the French cruisers Georges Leygues and Montcalm.
Returning to Australia in 1941, she resumed her shipping protection work in the Indian Ocean.
