Speicher, who was as happy in a night club as anywhere, was not chosen to be a member of the French team for the World Championships that year.
Georges Speicher, the 1933 winner, even though he was the reigning French road champion, did not ride.

The judges awarded him the win in a close sprint against Belgium's Romain Maes, but photos would prove that Maes had actually beaten Speicher by half a wheel.
The other rider visible in this image is Speicher's teammate Romain Gijssels.

In 1927 won hij bij de amateurs op de Nurburgring en in Floreffe in 1935 bij de profs.
Won verder nog het Kampioenschap van belgië op de weg (1936), Parijs-Brussel (31), de Ronde van belgië ('33) en zes ritten in de Tour de France van 1933, die gewonnen door Georges Speicher.
Na zijn wielercarrière volgde deze "Lord Brummel van de fiets" nog menige Tour als technisch raadgever en chauffeur van Luc Varenne.
