Georgi Timofeyevich Dobrovolski (above) was born to Timofei Dobrovolski and Maria Dobrovolskaya on 1st June 1928, at Odessa, the Ukraine, USSR.
Georgi initially wanted a naval career, but was turned down.
Georgi Timofeyevich left a wife, Lyudmila, and two daughters, Marina and Natasha, then aged 12 and 4.

  Georgi Dobrovolski
Georgi Timofeyevich Dobrovolski (born June 1, 1928 in Odessa, died June 30, 1971) was a Soviet cosmonaut who flew on the Soyuz 11 mission and had the unfortunate distinction of being part of the second crew to die during a space flight.
After a normal re-entry, the capsule was opened and the crew was found dead.
It was discovered that a valve had opened just prior to leaving orbit that had allowed the capsule's atmosphere to vent away into space, suffocating the crew.

Soyuz 11 succeeded in completing the mission that Soyuz 10 had failed at - carrying cosmonauts to live on the world's first space station, Salyut 1.
Cosmonauts Georgi Dobrovolski, Viktor Patsayev, and Vladislav Volkov spent three weeks testing the Salyut's systems and conducting biomedical and other scientific work.
They faced a number of difficulties on the station, including a fire, and the discovery that one of the station's main scientific instruments - a telescope - had been rendered inoperative by a protective cover that had failed to detach after launch.
