Denise Majette - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
She resigned from the judgeship in 2002 to run for the U.S. House of Representatives in Georgia's 4th Congressional district, which was based in DeKalb County, defeating 10-year incumbent Cynthia McKinney in the Democratic primary.
Majette faced Republican 6th District Congressman Johnny Isakson in the general election on November 2, 2004, and was heavily defeated, losing by almost 16 points.
Majette probably could have kept her congressional seat for as long as she wanted, but instead decided to run for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by fellow Democrat Zell Miller after only one term.

"The voters of the old 11th district lifted me upon their shoulders so that the voters of the new 4th district of Georgia would be able to see and investigate my record, look at my track record and get to know me as a candidate and as a representative in Congress."
Arguing for reinstating the majority-minority districts in Georgia, the American Civil Liberties Union told the Supreme Court those districts are fair for both black and white voters.
The Supreme Court ordered the district undone because, it said, race was the predominant factor in how its boundaries were drawn.

CPUSA Online - Report to National Board on Cynthia McKinney Defeat
The details of the defeat of Cynthia McKinney in Georgia's 4th Congressional District primary and Earl Hilliard in Alabama's 7th Congressional District primary should serve to sound an alarm about the assault being carried out by the right-wing in particular against the Black vote, and overall to weaken, split and destroy progressive representation.
The Republican Congressional Committee was well aware that Georgia stood to send seven out of 13 Democrats to the House, which would be an increase of four.
Five voters in McKinney's district have filed a lawsuit in US District Court under the Voting Rights Act and the United States Constitution for equitable relief, challenging the legality of the crossover vote.

Furthermore, THE CRISIS editor implies, erroneously, that the "challengers" - such as Cory Booker in Newark's mayoral election, Denise Majette in the Democratic Primary in Representative Cynthia McKinney's 4th Congressional District in Georgia - were either politically benign or "liberal" in regard to key public policy issues relating to African-American citizens.
Thus, it was not difficult for me to oppose Cory Booker's candidacy for mayor in Newark, N.J., and I wrote a memorandum on Booker's deep linkages to rightwing Republican groups, which was broadly circulated during the Newark Mayoral campaign.
Furthermore, Cory Booker's campaign was financed mainly through a Booker-friendly network of conservative organizations, especially ones launched to spread a rightwing Republican agenda among African-American voters.
