Our state was one of the last in the country to switch to the new national standard as outlined in the Federal Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
On the Loop, State Route 316 will remain Exit #1; however, the new system will number mileposts counter-clockwise, ending with Exit #18, US 78 Business/ State Route 10/ Atlanta Highway — Monroe and Winder.
Eighty percent of the cost of this safety project will be paid from federal funds, with 20 percent matching funds from the state gas tax.

State Route 316 (also known as University Parkway, GA 316 or 316) links metro Atlanta with Athens, Georgia, home of the University of Georgia.
Georgia 316 begins at Interstate 85 exit 106, near Lawrenceville, passing through Bethlehem, Georgia and Statham, Georgia and ending at State Route 10 Loop near Athens.
Sections of Georgia 316 overlap sections of U.S. Highway 29, U.S. Highway 78, and State Route 8.

 Georgia State Routes 350, 10 Loop and 422
GA 350 extended from U.S. (present-day GA 15 Alt) east to U.S. The plan was to extend the route west to U.S. 29/78 and east to a new cloverleaf interchange at Old Hull Road that would later become a new alignment for U.S. and later GA 72.
Additional work on the loop was held off for several more years, and the last section to be built differed from the rest of the loop in that it would travel in part through Oconee County.
Another cluster of routes on the west end of the loop where GA 316 begins its concrete clad course to the commercial center of the state.

In 2005, new Georgia Department of Transportation maps indicated that State Route 422 had been commissioned to cover the same route as SR 10 Loop.
