Georgian Technical University in Tbilisi (formerly V.I. Lenin Georgian Polytechnical Institute) was founded in 1922 as a polytechnic faculty of the Tbilisi State University.
Major faculties of the university are as follows; Civil Engineering, Energy and TeleCommunications, Geology, Chemistry and Metallurgy, Transport and Automotive Engineering, Architecture, Aviation Engineering, Informatics and Fundamental Sciences, and a recent addition "Humanitary Faculty" which comprised all arts and economics departments that have existed in the GTU for past ten years.
GTU is known for it's strong ties with "Alexander Razmadze Institute of Mathematics of Georgia" leading mathematical research institute in TransCaucasia.

Besides the skills of the Georgian host professors, a main reason for the success of the student program was that they proved to be an open-minded and resilient group, as can be seen in comments from one about how she adjusted to life in the US upon her return from Georgia.
Georgian faculty are interested in versions of the first and second models and prefer to have the American professor in attendance as well.
Since all four universities now have experience hosting American students, IWISE looks forward to using this model for additional student research projects there and/or adapting it to use in universities that are part of our IWISE higher educational network.

The Georgian Association for Informatics in Agriculture, Food and the Environment was founded on April 11th, 1997, registered at the Ministry of Justice of Georgia on April 25th, and affiliated with EFITA at the Copenhagen General Assembly (June 16th, 1997).
According to Georgian new Civil Code, the association had to be reregistered in a Court during 1998 and change its Statutes according to requirements of the Code.
