Georgiana section was settled in 1824 by settlers from Georgia, says Little, who gives these as the first to come: John Sheperd, Peter Mason, Michael O'Brien, Dr. Clements, John R. Keene, Miles and Peter Simpson, John W. Wheeler, and the Stockton family.
Little's History of Butler County, gives 1866 as the year of origin of Georgiana Methodist Church, and the Greenville Advocate (1931) says the first church, a wooden building, was built 1866, on land donated by Jerry Fail, one of the earliest residents of Georgiana.
Georgiana was incorporated as a town in 1869 and as a city in 1872.
