Franklin & Marshall - Geosciences Major
A Geoscience major focuses on the minerals and rocks of which the Earth is made, the architecture of its crust, the dynamic internal and surface processes that reshape the crust, and the evolution of the biosphere.
Geosciences 353 can be taken during the summer after the sophomore or junior year.
A minor in Geosciences consists of six courses, including one from the group Geosciences 110, 114, and 118; Geosciences 221; and four courses at the 200, 300, or 400 level selected in consultation with the department chair.

 Department of Geosciences
In Geoscience, we study the dynamic processes that have affected the history and development of the earth and continue to influence environments on its surface.
Geoscience crosses traditional discipline boundaries, incorporating concepts from physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics in the study of specific areas such as earth structure, history of life, plate tectonics, mountain building, earthquakes, ground water resources, climate, and energy resources.
The Geoscience curriculum is designed to give the student a solid scientific understanding of our environment using the latest tools and applications in preparation for careers in geology and geotechnical consulting, resource exploration and extraction, environmental issues involving water resources, geologic hazards, research, and government regulatory agencies.

 Department of Geosciences
The geosciences involve the study of the earth in terms of past, present and future events, and the processes which change not only the surface, but also the unseen interior of our planet.
Although the ultimate goal of geoscience is a thorough understanding of the earth and its transformation through time, our students are also vitally concerned with the exploration and conservation of natural resources as well as with the environmental impact that humanity has on the earth.
The study of geosciences at Trinity is built upon the philosophy that the students at the undergraduate level must receive a broad-based education emphasizing the fundamental principles of the discipline, enhanced whenever possible with the benefits of practical experience in the laboratory, extensive field experience, and a solid foundation in cognate sciences and mathematics.

University of Massachusetts Amherst Department of Geosciences
The Department of Geosciences offers both Master of Science (M.S.) and Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree programs which provide the student the close interaction with faculty which is characteristic of a small school, and the many research facilities and projects characteristic of a large university.
Applications for research in geosciences (to include the broad range of geology, geography, geophysics, climatology and paleoclimatology, paleoceanography, natural hazards and human interactions with the natural environment) are encouraged.
In addition to the general requirements of the Graduate School, all candidates for the Ph.D. are expected to have a background approximately equivalent to our M.S. degree in geology or geography, although this by no means precludes individualized programs for those with special strength in another discipline.
