	Geothermal Resources
		At least some of the sodium bicarbonate geothermal fluids of the central and north-central parts of the state may result from the exchange of sodium (possibly from volcanic rocks) for calcium in fluids that were originally calcium bicarbonate in character.
		Geothermal reservoirs in the northwestern part of the state have generally higher temperatures; these reservoirs are usually interpreted as being related to circulation of ground water to deep levels along faults in a region of higher-than-average heat flow (the Battle Mountain heat flow high).
		This source of geothermal data was suggested by a number of industry representatives at a March 1994 symposium sponsored by the Geothermal Resources Council on the geothermal resources and exploration of the Basin and Range Province.

	Overview of Geothermal Resources in Idaho
		Idaho is rich in geothermal resources, especially the central and southern parts of the state where the majority of the geothermal wells and springs are found.
		In general, geothermal waters are often found 1) in association with large igneous rock formations such as the Idaho Batholith, 2) within volcanic rocks such as rhyolite and basalt, and 3) in deep wells located in large sedimentary valleys such as the Treasure Valley.
		Possible sources of the heat for the geothermal water are 1) volcanism, 2) deep migration and circulation of recharge water, and 3) mechanical heating from movement along faults.

		For example, preliminary analyses of rock samples and fluids from the existing geothermal wells indicate that the shallow geothermal system is complex, as indicated by paragenetic relations and strong compositional zoning in calc-silicate minerals, such as epidote.
