Gerakas ( Greek : Γέρακας), is a suburb in the northern part of Athens, Greece.
Between March 2001 and February 2003, the east section ended at Gerakas Street which is now an overpass and is passed through the south and the west.
Gerakas is accessed with the Attiki Odos (number 6)/ E94 via Doukissis Plakentias which is also accessed with GR-1 / E75 (Athens - Lamia - Thessaloniki), GR-8 /E94 and Eleftherios Venizelos.

Ionian Eco Villagers - formerly Gerakas Villagers - was set up in 2003, and had their first full summer in 2004.
Gerakas, the southern peninsula of Zakynthos is within the National Marine Park of Zaknythos, set up to protect sea turtles which nest there over the summer.
The beach at Gerakas is a nesting beach, so tourists are asked to leave well before sunset so as not to disturb the nesting hours of darkness.

This small complex is near to a local supermarket and two good tavernas/restaurants.The local beach is 700 metres away, whilst the famous Gerakas beach is about 1.5 kms away.
The studios in the older part of the complex are large and simply furnished, but offer tremendous sea views from their balconies and all studios overlook the lovely pool.

Gerakas (Greece): A bus with 25 people on board was hijacked early today (Dec 15, 2004) in an Athens suburb by two armed men demanding to be flown back to Russia, police and Government officials said.
The two men, armed with rifles, boarded the bus in the early hours, firing shots into its roof and halting the vehicle on a thoroughfare in the suburb of Gerakas, where police surrounded it, a Government spokesman said.
About six hours after the drama unfolded, the hijackers released two men and three women who were seen leaving the bus from the driver's side.

The crew filmed at Gerakas, Daphni, Kalamaki and Laganas, where they interviewed British holiday makers, Archelon volunteers and local Zakynthians, which made interesting viewing.
The programme was aired in the UK in mid-August, the weekend the Olympics Games started and did well to highlight the mixed attitudes and issues on the island and the problems conservationists face to protect the beaches and the turtles.
Judith Zbinden, PhD student and long-term Archelon volunteer, spent this summer at Gerakas fitting female turtles with satellite transmitters, as part of the only study of Loggerhead Turtles being carried out in Europe.
