Gerard Kennedy, (born 1960 in The Pas, Manitoba) is a Canadian politician.
Kennedy entered political life in May 1996, running in a by-election for the Ontario legislature in the Toronto riding of York South, which was being vacated by former provincial NDP leader Bob Rae.
Kennedy wanted to run in the redistributed riding of York South—Weston in the Ontario provincial election of 1999, but was forced to step aside for former leadership rival Joseph Cordiano.

James was born in 1907 in Manhattan, the son of James Joseph Kennedy (1866-1926) a plasterer; and Katherine Carr (1865-1951), both immigrants from Ireland.
Kennedy also helped to maintain the integrity of the famous Heisman Trophy when he served as a Governor of the Downtown Athletic Club (home of the Heisman Trophy) in New York City.
Kennedy has been honored by The American Jewish Committee as Man Of The Year, and in 1989 he was honored by The Dominican Academy as A Catholic Gentleman for his generosity in constructing the James G. Kennedy Science Center at the school.
