The Internet Classics Archive | The Gallic Wars by Julius Caesar
When the centurions in the town understood from the signal-making of the Gauls that they were forming some new design, they drew their swords and seized the gates, and recovered all their men safe.
While these affairs were going on at Gergovia, Convictolanis, the Aeduan, to whom we have observed the magistracy was adjudged by Caesar, being bribed by the Arverni, holds a conference with certain young men, the chief of whom were Litavicus and his brothers, who were born of a most noble family.
It was resolved that Litavicus should have the command of the ten thousand, which were being sent to Caesar for the war, and should have charge of them on their march, and that his brothers should go before him to Caesar.

 Gergovia - the famous battle
Overview: After the capture of Avaricum, Caesar marched with six legions to Gergovia, one of the strongholds of Vervingetorix.
Intending to completely encircle Gergovia and starve the Gauls inside, Caesar was interrupted by trouble with his Gallic allies the Aedui.
On the fifth day a slight cavalry skirmish took place ; and having reconnoitred the position of the city, which was set upon a very lofty height, with difficult approaches on every side, he despaired of taking it by storm, and he determined not to attempt a blockade until he had secured his corn supply.

Back at Gergovia Caesar learns that the Gauls are trying to improve their position by securing an area that could prevent Caesar from completely encircling Gergovia.
Obviously the Romans died on land still held by the enemy, which meant that the attack was pointless for the Romans.
Gergovia was Caesar's first military defeat and was surely quite humiliating for him personally.

Near the hill fort of Gergovia, with favorable ground for a defensive stand, Vercingetorix stopped and prepared to meet Caesar.
Realizing that Gergovia would have to end in his first humiliating defeat, Caesar built a bridge across the Allier, and retreated out of reach of the enemy.
With an alleged army of some 80,000 men, Vercingetorix and his army were in shock from Caesar's Germanic cavalry allies and were in no condition to meet the 60,000 Romans Legionaries on the battlefield.

The Battle of Gergovia was Caesar's failed attempt to wipe out the threat of a large Gallic uprising by isolating and defeating a gathering of the Arverni, plus several other Gallic contingents, under their new chieftain, Vercingetorix.
The terrain is not overly conducive to linear combat, the approach to Gergovia being fairly steep and somewhat rocky, but Caesar, Roman that he is, has already built two camps and a sunken trench for easy movement.
Gergovia is a tough game for either side, as the options and possible strategies are multiple.

If you doesn't have a true leader who fixes a control and a strict direction it's lost in advance, you permanently make compromises for one or other and finally you doesn't advance, it's for that, that i wanted to remain alone.
The process is very simple, i takes my guitar tests to find The riff which kills and to find an environment, when i finally found all these components i compose the battery, come the second guitar, the bass, the lyrics and finally a little parts of keyboards.

He never takes the town, the Aeduan tribe that had previously been Caesar's ally rebels and joins Vercingetorix, and the Gauls are inspired by the short-lived victory to continue the revolt until their defeat at Alesia.

A Roman attempt to storm Gergovia was repulsed and resulted in heavy Roman losses--the first outright defeat that Caesar had suffered in Gaul.
Caesar then defeated an attack on the Roman army on the march and was thus able to besiege Vercingetorix in Alesia, to the northwest of Dijon.
Alesia, like Gergovia, was a position of great natural strength, and a large Gallic army came to relieve it; but this army was repulsed and dispersed by Caesar, and Vercingetorix then capitulated.

To state that Caesar's troops were carried away at Gergovia, or that they didn't hear the trumpets sounding the recall is putting too much trust on Caesar's relation of the event, I think.

The Romans may not have been carried away; they may just have followed the roman military doctrine of smashing through the center, exploiting holes in the enemy lines and offensive posture at all times and at all costs.
