In modern Germany the Heer is part of the Bundeswehr, however it was also the name for the Army of Wehrmacht, of Nazi Germany.
The Bundeswehr Heer was reformed in the 1950s as the Army of West Germany until 1990, and East and West Germany after.
The army of East Germany was called the Landstreitkräfte, part of Nationale Volksarmee.

When forces of the German 6th Army launched their attack against the city centre of Stalingrad on 13 September 1942, Mamayev Kurgan (appearing in military maps as "Height 102.0") saw particularly fierce fighting between the German attackers and the defending soldiers of the Soviet 62nd Army.
It has indeed been some very intensive days in the German Capital that celebrated the 60th anniversary of the end of WWII on May 8 and officially opened the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe on May 10 in the presence of around 1500 invited guests and the world media.
It is an anniversary that the German Government have used to strengthening the picture of the country as a peaceful and creative democracy.
