A precursor to the German Grand Prix, the first race was won by Italian Felice Nazzaro in a Fiat.
The first national event in German Grand Prix motor racing came to the AVUS (Automobil Verkehrs und Übungs-Straße) race course in southwest Berlin in 1926 as a sports car race.
The 1930 and 1933 German Grands Prix were both cancelled due to the country's economic problems.

The 2005 German Grand Prix was a Formula One race, held on 24 July 2005, at Hockenheimring.
Juan Pablo Montoya received a 10 position grid penalty for an engine change (having crashed on the final corner of his qualifying lap).
This was Robert Doornbos' first Grand Prix; the former Jordan third driver replaced Patrick Friesacher in the Minardi-Cosworth, after Friesacher's sponsorship money ran out.

 Montoya wins German Grand Prix
Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya won Sunday's crash-marred German Grand Prix to move within six points of defending champion Michael Schumacher in the drivers' title race.
German Schumacher started sixth and, after profiting from a first-lap multiple collision, which wiped out six cars, he fought up to second place in torrid heat in his Ferrari.
The first-corner collision took out German Ralf Schumacher of Williams, Finn Kimi Raikkonen of McLaren and Brazilian Rubens Barrichello of Ferrari, all of whom were leading contenders for the race.

Come the end of a German Grand Prix run in blistering heat - the track temperature was 49 deg C immediately before the start of the race - European Minardi Cosworth personnel had reason to be both pleased and disappointed.
Pleased because newly signed Danish driver, Nicolas Kiesa, made an assured Formula One debut in the gruelling conditions, finishing his first Grand Prix in 12th place, but disappointed because team mate, Jos Verstappen, was forced to retire his car from the race on lap 24.
As for the car, it was good for the first four or five laps of each stint, but then the handling started to degrade and I found myself grappling with quite a lot of oversteer.

So as the two men are of very different heights it would not be the most comfortable of Grands Prix for Fisichella A few drops of rain began to fall as the race got underway with the two McLaren's making a good start with Hakkinen into the lead.
The rain however amounted to nothing and the Grand Prix took place in the dry.
But it was a great day for Mercedes with their first German GP victory since 1954 but some mixed emotions for the passionate German crowd with Michael Schumacher in the Ferrari only managing to finish in fifth place one spot ahead of his brother Ralf.

The circuit at Hockenheim was built in 1939 by Mercedes-Benz, which wanted somewhere to test its cars for the high-speed Tripoli Grand Prix.
The boom in the German economy in the late 1950 Racing restarted in 1966 but it was not until April 1968 that Hockenheim hit the headlines, for all the wrong reasons, when Jim Clark was killed in an unexplained accident out in the woods during a Formula 2 race.

The German Grand Prix ended in disappointment for Jordan Ford with neither Ralph Firman nor Giancarlo Fisichella finishing the race.
Firman collided with Heinz-Harald Frentzen and then Justin Wilson at the first corner, as cars suddenly slowed to avoid an accident which had taken place further up the field.
We continued to find out about any other reliability issues and eventually he had to pull out of the race just before the end with a water leak which caused the engine to overheat.
