  German Rieckehoff
German Rieckehoff (born German Rieckehoff Sampayo, February 5, 1915-September 30, 1997 in Vieques, Puerto Rico) is considered to have been the most influencial president of the Puerto Rican Olympic Committee.
Rieckehoff whose ancestors migrated from Germany and settled in the "Little Island" Vieques, was raised in a homestead by his parents.
Rieckehoff oversaw the construction of the "Olympic Village" in Carolina for the VIII Pan American Games, held in Puerto Rico in 1979 and he also oversaw the construction of the "Alberque (Hostel) Olympico" in Salinas.

German businessmen first immigrated to Puerto Rico during the early part of the 19th century.
Amongst the first German settlers in Puerto Rico were Johann Kifenhover, who in 1832 established a school in San Juan, Adolfo Rauschenplar, who founded a sugar cane export business and Walter Tischer who in 1915 married Carmen Vargas Alayon with whom he opened a ballet school in San Juan which still exists today.
By the beginning of the 20th century, many of the descendants of the first German settlers had become successful businessmen, educators, and scientists and were among the pioneers of Puerto Rico's television industry.

German Rieckehoff, former head of Puerto Rico's Olympic Committee, died Tuesday on a flight from Switzerland to Puerto Rico after suffering a heart attack.
Rieckehoff, an honorary I.O.C. member, became president of Puerto Rico's Olympic Committee in 1976.
In addition to his wife, Rieckehoff is survived by three sons.
