Elections in Germany gives information on election and election results in Germany, including elections to the Federal Diet (the lower house of the federal parliament), the Landtage of the various states, and local elections.
Elections are conducted every 4 years, with the exact date of the election chosen by the outgoing government.
German nationals over the age of 18 are eligible to vote, including most Germans resident outside Germany, and eligibility for candidacy is essentially the same as eligibility to vote.

Prior to the German reunification of 1990 (in which the Länder of the German Democratic Republic were incorporated into the FRG), there were 496 seats in the chamber: for the post-reunification legislative elections held in 1990, 160 seats were added to represent the new Länder and Berlin.

No data was available until recently for the 1957 federal elections; this gap was recently closed through the integration of data from a poll conducted by Institut für Demoskopie Allensbach.
Except for the 1949 survey, which was not acquired until 1993, and that for 1957 (made available in 2000), the complete database for the "old" Federal Republic is thus available in two languages for international users.
These election surveys are available on CD-ROM, together with the proceedings of the conference "50 Years of Empirical Election Research in Germany" that was held by ZA in the autumn of 1999.

The scrutiny of elections is the responsibility of the Bundestag.
The Federation may grant the Laender financial assistance for particularly important investments by the Laender or communes or associations of communes, provided that such investments are necessary to avert a disturbance of the overall economic equilibrium or to equalize differences of economic capacities within the federal territory or to promote economic growth.

According to the site, subscriptions are only available to "qualified government employees." The web site does provide delayed full-text access (pdf) to past editions of the publication.
